New Perspective

I am in Detriot.
The city.
Downtown.
Talk about New Perspective.
The adjustment has been an interesting one, but I love it.

This will most likely be the last area I serve in. I have moved up closer to some of my favorite missionaries.

As I reflect on my mission, my perspective has changed in life completely.

Perspective is the way we see things when we look at them from a certain distance and it allows us to appreciate their true value and act accordingly.

An example, you don't know how much you miss someone until you don't get to spend as much time with them...

Distance kills what's fake and shows you what's real.

Perspective is the window you look through to perceive everything.

Is your window clean or dirty?

Perspective helps you to know where you are now and where you want to go.

While you're on the path, are you going to be looking for the tools on the way or the obstacles?

Proverbs 14:8
The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

I think there is a reason King Solomon asked for wisdom out of anything he could've had.

We've talked about the most valuable knowledge we have is the Gospel. That is the window we should be looking through.

"For decisions that effect eternity, having a gospel perspective is essential"

- Elder Rafael E. Pino

This perspective helps us to do what truly has value, what has eternal value.

One comes from Alma: “Therefore God gave unto them commandments, after having made known unto them the plan of redemption.”

It is interesting to note the sequence in the teaching process. Our Heavenly Father first taught Adam and Eve the plan of redemption and then He gave them commandments.

This perspective leads us to understand where we are in God’s plan. To accept difficulties and progress through them, to make decisions and to center our lives on our divine potential.

It's the lens we look through.

I'm excited for Detriot. I am excited for what's to come. There is a lot to do here and a lot to learn, but no matter where I am, there always is. Though it may feel like Ohio to Central Park (sticks to the hood), I love the new perspective my mission has given me. The lens I have received is one of the most valuable things to me.

Read the Book of Mormon, learn about God's character, learn about His plan, gain this new perspective.

You wont regret it.
